Getting married in Australia
To get married in Australia you will need to check a few things first.
Age - You must be 18 years of age or older.
Notice - A minimum one calender months notice of Intention to Marry.
(Download Notice of Intended Marriage.)
Australian Born - Yours' and your partners' Birth Certificate from the Australian state or territory of birth.
Born Overseas - If you &/or your partner were born overseas, your passport or preferably your birth certificate from your native country.
Previously Married - If you &/or your partner have been divorced or widowed, you will need to produce a Decree Nisi or your former partners Death Certificate.
Change of Name - If you have have your name from that shown on your birth certificate, you will require legal documents detailing the change.
Foreign Languages - If any of your required documents need translating, please contact the Community Relations Commission to access an authorised translation service. You may phone them on (02) 8255 6767 - TTY (02) 8255 6758 or visit www.crc.nsw.gov.au
